The college football season is finally here, and with that, so is the beginning of new players to watch for the 2022 NFL Draft. We already know a ton of the elite players, but here we need to incorporate a mix with more than just the stars. So, let's get into it.
Note: These players are only those eligible in the 2022 NFL Draft class.
Penix had a very good season for the Hoosiers last year, but it ended with a torn ACL. He's had a very good college career so far, but he's not really on an NFL level yet. He needs to add more to his throws and just show us that he can be a complete quarterback. This week against Iowa is a perfect chance to do so. The Hawkeyes have a veteran defense that will force Penix to make legitimate reads, and make some pro throws. If he does this, all eyes on the draft world will focus on Penix for the rest of the year.
Sticking in the Big 10, Faalele is one of the most intriguing prospects out there. He's 6'9", 400 pounds, which obviously is a massive frame. The Golden Gophers go up against Ohio State this week and Faalele will have to deal with a talented pass-rush from the Buckeyes. After seeing his initial stock plummet in 2020 after dropping out of the season, it'll be more than interesting to see how Faalele comes back and how high he can get that stock back up.
An opening week test against Alabama gives Rambo a monumental opportunity. Rambo has had some very good success in his career at Oklahoma before transferring to Miami last year. Rambo has to go up and face an Alabama secondary that features Jordan Battle, Josh Jobe, and others. Early wins in multiple reps here can get us to focus our attention on Rambo, as he's fallen a bit out of the spotlight since transferring.
Fehoko is one of the most underrated players in the entire country. He wasn't super impressive in San Jose State's Week 0 opener, only netting two total tackles, but against USC this week he sees a big chance to improve his stock. Now, Fehoko is only in his third year so he does have a chance to use this year and next to rise up in the ranks. However, USC's offensive line isn't necessarily the best, but they are still a power five group and a big game could get Fehoko the national attention he deserves and maybe speed up the draft process.
There are a lot of names we could take from the Wisconsin-Penn State game this Saturday but Brisker's is the most intriguing. He's a safety who's probably sitting around a mid to late-round grade right now. Facing a Wisconsin offense that is very balanced, we'll get to see Brisker operate tons against both the run and pass. There is no doubt that come draft time this Wisconsin game will be one of the first tapes we turn on for Brisker.
